The turbulence of 2020, shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, pulled at the edges of daily life. I realised that the sensations I experienced on a trampoline—gravity, confusion, dizziness, tension, elasticity, humiliation—were not unlike the emotional and physical upheavals of that time. My body remained still, yet my inner world spun with instability. The clarity of life gave way to nausea, and lived experience was increasingly replaced by screens and recordings.

To reclaim a sense of agency, I chose to confront that disorientation directly. Wearing a mask, I jumped on a trampoline while waving two flags—generating dizziness through motion and recording it. In doing so, I attempted to overwrite the chaos of that year with self-directed memory: to document not passivity, but a voluntary struggle for balance and meaning.

The Elasticity of Sense is a form of resistance—an embodied assertion against conditions that destabilised my reality. It is a visceral attempt to hold onto the self amidst forces beyond control.

  2020년 격변하는 코로나 상황은 자신 주변의 많은 상황을 끌어당기며, 변화되는 삶이 트램폴린 위에서 경험한 단어들(중력, 혼란스러움, 어지러움, 긴장감, 탄성, 굴욕감)과 그다지 다르지 않다는 것을 깨닫게 한다. 자신이 감당할 수 없는 사건들은 인간의 육체가 가만히 땅을 밟고 서 있지만, 지독한 현기증에 시달리게 했고, 삶을 감싸고 있는 모든 상황은 명확하지 않고 울렁거리고 있었다. 삶은 반드시 지켜져야만 하는 공동의 규칙 속에 희미해졌고, 대부분이 실제가 아닌 녹화된 영상으로 대체되었다.

     자신의 의지로 삶을 통제하는 기억으로 되돌아가기 위해 현재 불안정한 정신과 평온한 육체, 어지러운 삶 모두를 직접 선택하기로 한다. 코와 입을 가린 체 트램폴린 위를 빠르게 뛰어오르며 두 손에 깃발을 쥐고 흔든다. 뛰어오르고 흔들리는 육체로 발생하는 현기증으로 2020년 자신이 삶이 놓인 상황들을 지워내고 스스로 녹화되며 스스로가 결정한 자발적인 변화로 기억하고 대체시킨다.

  이건 현재 자신의 의지와는 상관없이 삶을 어지럽히는 상황들에 저항하고자 하는 행위이며, 그 어지러운 변화에서 자신의 삶을 되찾기 위한 필사의 버둥거림이다. (작가 노트)
