Honestly: A Foreign Substance in Nature​ is a composite of two videos that were filmed on location in Sweden and Iceland. The artist’s original impetus was to explore concepts of sincerity and naturalism as contradictory in a society dominated by acceptable codes of behaviour. Through the editing process, the artist unearthed a hidden spontaneity: ‘It no longer seemed as though I was struggling or lonely. The body movements seemed free and protected from the watching eyes of society. Where did this new sense of liberation come from? What exactly was the weight that had been lifted?’.
